Love, Lemons & Limoncello: A December Fling with the Amalfi Coast πŸ‹

In the sunny days of December, I ran away to the Amalfi Coast (Costiera Amalfitana) with my very own Southern Italian boyfriend, warm heart, and a suspiciously lazy sleepy cat who chose to stay behind and guard the apartment (sleep like a Roman emperor).

We zigzagged through the coast like characters in an Italian old film, hand in hand in Vietri sul Mare, where ceramics are so colourful it feels like the town got into a paint fight.

Then to Amalfi, charming and pretty, and Positano, which was so painfully picturesque it should come with a beauty (and price!) warning. Very expensive.

View in December from the street close to Amalfi and Positano.

We sipped local Amalfi wine with great food. There was pizza napoletana, lemon sorbet, lemon pie, and enough Limoncello to make even the cat purr in approval.

Sorbetto al limone. Lemon and Limoncello sorbet in Amalfi. Expensive, but must have it once in a lifetime.

We climbed endless hillside steps, explored few ancient churches, and drove through the storybook villages of Minori, Maiori, and Praiano, where the sea whispered, the lemons glowed, and the oranges acted like winter was a lie. Sunny days were lovely, but evenings, nights and mornings are humid and cold in December. So take winter clothes to Italy between November and February.

Chiesa, church in Positano.

Beautiful presepe di Natale in nature, on a rock. Italians love their presepe Christmas decorations, they have them in cities and at homes.

Yes, there was a rogue piece of trash here and there, proof that even paradise gets messy, reminder that this is Southern Italy already. But mostly, it was magic. Sun, sea, citrus, and love.

Final verdict?
One of the most beautiful places in Italy. Go in winter or spring. Bring someone you love or go with a good friend. Place for adults mostly. Remember to wear good shoes, you will need to walk a lot as the roads are very narrow and crowded.

And don’t forget the Limoncello. It’s basically Amalfi in a shot glass. πŸ₯‚πŸ’›πŸ‹
